Have you ever had an idea to do something that felt so right? The kind of idea that made the hairs on your arms stand tall knowing that this is what you are supposed to do (I'm getting goosebumps writing this)? That idea to do something good, that feeling to do it that never went away, is what lead to the creation of HELPCO.
It all started with inspiration from my children years ago. My sons came up with an idea to do something good for the environment. They decided that the best way for them to have an immediate and positive impact on their community was to clean up their neighborhood. So it began one Sunday with me pulling a wagon with a box for recyclables and a bag for garbage trailing my boys as they searched for garbage treasure. The joy they felt for what they were accomplishing carried on to every Sunday for months and now the formation of HELPCO. Their desire to do something good and take action the way they knew how has made me more proud than any accomplishments at their school or in sports.
With the creation of HELPCO comes broader ideas to find ways we can provide help to everyone. Though we begin with small scale support like preserving and enhancing our local environment, your involvement and contributions will increase our strength and the capacity of help which we can provide. If you are in a position to help, you are more powerful and important than you may think. The help you provide, even if it is for one person, can have a lasting impact that truly makes a difference in our world.
